Marine Cpl. MICHAEL S. SAUTTERS of Floyd has received the Navy Achievement Medal. Sautters was cited for superior performance of duty while serving with 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division, assigned to Roanoke.

The award is official recognition for outstanding accomplishments, achievements and devotion to duty. Sautters was presented with the award in a formal ceremony this month.

Those recently deploying or reporting for duty include:

Navy Lt. JOHN D. HARBER, son of John B. and Billie Jean Harber of Radford, recently reported for duty at U.S. Naval Forces Central Command, Manama, Bahrain.

Navy Petty Officer 1st Class GENE D. SHANNON, a 1977 graduate of Shawsville High School, is aboard the aircraft carrier USS America, which recently passed through the Suez Canal and has taken a position off of the coast of Somalia.

Those recently completing special training include:

Marine Pfc. JAMES G. CONNER, son of Clyde E. and Carolyn J. Conner of Riner, completed the Electrical Equipment Repair Course at the Marine Corps Engineer School, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Marine Staff Sgt. FRANK J. LINDSAY, son of William S. and Ann W. Lindsay of Dublin, recently graduated from the Staff Noncommissioned Officers Academy at Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, Santa Ana, Calif.

Army Cadet CLAYTON B. ALTIZER, son of Carlos W. and Ellen G. Altizer of Christiansburg, received practical work in military leadership at the ROTC advanced camp at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, N.C.

Army National Guard Sgt. KENNETH L. DICKERSON, son of Donald L. Dickerson of Pearisburg, completed the chaplain assistance course at Fort Monmouth, Red Bank, N.J.

Air Force Airman Basic CHAD E. LITTERAL, son of Paulette H. Litteral of Blacksburg, graduated from the tactical aircraft maintenance specialist course at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.

Those who recently completed basic training include:

Air Force Airman SCOTT W. LUTZ, son of Alice F. Bishop and stepson of Robert W. Bishop of Christiansburg, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Navy Seaman Recruit RICK E. RIDDLE, son of Lacy A. and Teresa M. Riddle of Dublin, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Air Force Airman CHRISTOPHER L. RUTLEDGE, son of Olivia S. Rutledge and Houston T. Rutledge, both of Christiansburg, graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Army Pvt. 2 GREGORY L. QUESENBERRY, son of Nora E. Quesenberry of Hiwassee, completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Navy Seaman JAMES E. STANLEY, son of Mark and Diane Stanley of Newport, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

Navy Airman HEATHER A. SHUCK, daughter of Sharon K. Shuck of Blacksburg, completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.
