The Greyhounds (19-2-1) advanced to the second round with a 1-0 victory over James Madison, while Virginia (18-3) beat William and Mary 2-1. Loyola has history on its side, with a 4-2 record against UVa, including a 1-0 victory over the Cavaliers in the second round of the 1987 tournament.

Greyhounds goalie Zach Thornton leads the country with a 0.34 goals-against average, including six shutouts in his past seven games. Loyola has held opponents to seven goals in 22 games.
