HOME SALES IN STATE ROSE IN SEPTEMBER

Home sales rose 4.3 percent in September across the state, the Virginia Association of Realtors reported this month. The trade group said its members wrote sales contracts for 5,285 houses, up from 5,069 in September 1992. In the first nine months of this year, the VAR said 50,626 new and existing houses have been sold in Virginia, up 0.6 percent over 50,344 in the corresponding period a year ago.

"The confidence that was built throughout our summer of recovery will hopefully encourage interest in undecided consumers," said VAR president Edward E. Pagett.
