Dolly Parton warned rumormongers against presuming her close friendship with a woman means she's a lesbian, then asked why it's such a big deal.

Parton dismissed rumors that she and Judy Ogle are anything more than best friends.

"We have done everything together, but not that," Parton said. She said she's closer to Ogle than to her husband, but insisted she's not a lesbian.

"But what would be the big deal if the rumors were true? There are a lot of gay people in the world," she said. "I'm just not one of 'em. Why is it that they have to dirty every beautiful thing?"

\ Television evangelist Jim Bakker and the Rev. Jerry Falwell met Saturday at the federal prison in Georgia where Bakker is serving time for fraud in the 1987 PTL scandal, a Charlotte television station reported. The meeting took place at the federal prison in Jesup, Ga., after Falwell asked to see Bakker, WBTV reported.

The meeting was described as a "pastoral visit" by a spokesman for Falwell, who took control of Bakker's PTL ministry at Bakker's request. The ministry and its holdings were forced into bankruptcy.

Bakker and his now ex-wife, Tammy Faye, later accused Falwell of stealing the ministry.

Bakker said through his attorney that he appreciated the chance to smooth over bitter feelings.

\ London gym owner Bryce Taylor explains on New Zealand TV why he installed secret cameras to take pictures of Princess Diana, pictures he then sold to British tabloids: "We had a lot of bank borrowing, and personally I was up to my eyeballs and beyond."

\ Michael Milken struck back Friday at "Doonesbury" creator Garry Trudeau, daring the cartoonist to visit one of Milken's business school classes the comic strip lampooned.

"We would like to invite him to join our classroom," said Milken, who was paroled this year after a two-year prison term for securities fraud. "Anybody can make things up. Let's come in and get real."

A recent "Doonesbury" strip showed Milken comparing Galileo, Joan of Arc and Columbus to himself, saying they were all risk-taking visionaries.
