UNC WOMEN WIN NCAA SOCCER TITLE

Mia Hamm closed her record-setting career Sunday with a goal and two assists, leading North Carolina to a 6-0 victory over George Mason and its eighth consecutive NCAA women's soccer title.

George Mason (18-3-2) was held to two shots on goal. The Tar Heels (23-0) peppered Patriots goalie Skye Eddy, the tournament's most valuable defensive player, with 38 shots.

The crowd of 5,721 was the largest ever to watch an NCAA women's soccer game.

In four years of NCAA playoffs, Hamm had 41 points on 16 goals and nine assists, all NCAA records. - Associated Press
