CITADEL AGAIN TO APPEAL TO KEEP OUT WOMAN

Citadel trustees voted Monday to ask for full federal appeals court reconsideration of whether a woman may attend day classes at the all-male military college.

The Citadel will ask the entire U.S. 4th Circuit Court of Appeals in Richmond, Va., to take up last week's decision by a three-judge panel of the Richmond court that Shannon Faulkner may attend while her lawsuit challenging the men-only rule proceeds.

The Citadel and Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va., are the only state-supported schools in the nation with a male-only admission policy. The Citadel board of visitors met by telephone and voted after a 35-minute closed session.
