VETERAN COOKS SHARE THEIR SECRETS

Recipe for a good day: Work together two parts Unselfishness and one part of Patience. Add plenty of Industry. Lighten with Good Spirits and sweeten with Kindness. Put Smiles as thick as raisins in plum pudding and bake by the warmth which steams from a Loving Heart.

\ 'TIS THE SEASON TO COOK, and if my family is any measure, all the best cooks are over 60! While there are many, many more cookbooks on the market than anyone would ever need, some of the best ones are, like fruits and vegetables, locally produced. They are filled with recipes made with love and care throughout decades and even generations of KP duties.

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program has published a "Seasoned with Love" cookbook, which opens with the Recipe for a Good Day printed above. Anyone can make this during the holidays and the new year beyond.

Real food recipes include simple ones like a cheese ball made with eight ounces of cream cheese and one package of instant onion or bacon and onion soup mix; and more complicated ones such as Layered Tostada Bake or Three Layer Strawberry Pretzel Dessert. Out of curiosity, you might want to try Angel Biscuits or Preacher Cookies.

The cookbooks can be purchased for $5 each at the Dec. 10-11 bake sale at Wal-Mart, or call the RSVP office at 382-5775.

The residents and staff of Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Shawsville have assembled 430 recipes for a cookbook which will be available Dec. 10. Call to reserve your $7.50 copy, 268-2203.
