PAGEANT OPENED TO WOMEN THROUGHOUT VALLEY

The Miss Montgomery County Scholarship Pageant has a new name. It's now the Miss New River Valley Scholarship Pageant.

Pageant sponsors say the idea is to open this local preliminary to the Miss Virginia pageant to all eligible young women in Montgomery, Pulaski, Floyd, Giles and Wythe counties.

The pageant is set for March 19, 1994, at Christiansburg High School. It's open to all young women and to students at local universities who are between 17 and 24 years old.

The competition includes a confidential interview, talent, evening gown and swimsuit.

Miss New River Valley wins a $1,000 scholarship and the right to represent the area in the Miss Virginia pageant in Roanoke next summer.

For more information, call David Wert, 382-1337, after 6 p.m., or write the pageant at 625 Mountainview Drive, Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
