EARNHARDT SETS RECORD FOR EARNINGS

Dale Earnhardt, the Winston Cup champion, won more than $3.3 million in 1993, the richest season for any auto racing driver.

According to figures released by NASCAR officials, the title was worth a record $1,745,049, giving the Kannapolis, N.C., driver winnings for the season of $3,353,789.

The six-time champion surpassed his 1990 record of $3,083,056, and is the only driver to have won more than $3 million in a season.
