\ MARINE PFC. SHAWN A. BOWMAN, son of Carol F. Gunter of 310 Timberline Trail in Vinton, recently completed basic training at Parris Island, S.C., and was promoted to his present rank.
\ MARINE PFC. MICHAEL Y. WARREN, son of Mary A. Warren of Salem, has been deployed to Somalia as part of the USS Guadalcanal Amphibious Ready Group. He is a 1990 graduate of Northside High School.
\ NAVY LT. SEAN J. DOOLEY, whose wife, Kristi, is the daughter of D. Wayne and Patricia Goodman of Salem, is in the Adriatic Sea aboard the USS America in support of United Nations Operation Sharp Guard. Dooley is a 1989 graduate of Virginia Military Institute.
\ AIR FORCE SENIOR AIRMAN JOHN W. PRILLAMAN, son of Maurice R. and Joyce P. Prillaman of 6405 Rose Lawn Road, has arrived for duty at Osan Air Base in Songton, South Korea. Prillaman is a fire protection specialist.
\ ARMY PVT. 1 JEREMY D. WALKLEY, son of Richard E. and Gail P. Walkley of 717 Catawba Drive in Salem, has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
\ SEAMAN RECRUIT BOBBY R. BAILEY, son of Bobby R. Baily Sr. of 4533 Thirlane Rd. N.W. and Sally L. Dunlap of Route 684, New Castle, recently completed Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes Illinois. Bailey is a 1993 graduate of Craig County High School.
\ MASTER SGT. JOSEPH M. CONNER, son of Joseph N. and Nancy D. Conner of 5737 Thornrose Road, has been promoted to his present rank while serving at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
\ NAVY AIRMAN RECRUIT JOSEPH E. TUCCIARONE, son of Joseph E. and Linda L. Tucciarone of 1921 Stonemill Drive, Salem, recently returned from duty aboard the USS Constellation, which recently underwent a three-year overhaul at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. Tucciarone is a 1990 graduate of Salem High.
\ LT. CHRISTOPHER E. BOLT, son of Jack E. Bolt of Roanoke, received the Navy Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 120 in Norfolk, where he is currently assigned. Bolt is a 1987 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
\ NAVY SEAMAN ROY D. DECOSTER, a 1989 graduate of Cave Spring Decoster High School, recently completed basic training and received the United Service Organization Award. The award is presented to the recruit who best exemplifies the spirit and intent of the term "shipmate."
\ MARINE PFC. JOSHUA K. KIKER, son of Monika Milona of 2621 Richards Ave. and Carl K. Kiker of 10 Upland Drive, Salem, recently completed recruit training and was meritoriously promoted to his present rank. Kiker is a 1992 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS STEPHEN R. BARTON, son of Lilburn E. Barton of 6346 Nell Drive and Nancy L. Burdette of 4717 Pennsylvania Ave., recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz. He is a 1989 graduate of Northside High School.
