THE ROANOKE ALUMNAE CHAPTER OF DELTA SIGMA SORORITY INC. has awarded 11 scholarships. The chapter uses its annual Jabberwock contest to raise money for the scholarships.

Recipients are:

Nicole Cunningham, Virginia Western Community College, daughter of John and Linda Cunningham and 1993 graduate of William Fleming High School, $1,000.

Shayla Henry, James Madison University, daughter of Samuel and Patricia Henry and 1993 graduate of Northside High School, $700.

Sonya Mayo, James Madison University, daughter of Ellen Chambers and 1993 graduate of William Fleming, $700.

Nicole Quarles, Hollins College, daughter of Rawleigh and Barbara Quarles and 1993 graduate of William Fleming, $700.

Trinette Law, James Madison University, daughter of Ernestine Law and James W. Law and 1993 graduate of William Fleming, $500.

Michelle Smith, James Madison University, daughter of Earl and Valerie Smith and 1993 graduate of Northside High School, $500.

Tina Wooden, Virginia Tech, daughter of Paul and Sharon Wooden and 1993 graduate of William Fleming, $500.

Kecelia Ferrell, Virginia Commonwealth University, daughter of Mary J. Ferrell and 1993 graduate of Patrick Henry High School, $400.

Harriet McCadden, Virginia Tech, daughter of Francine Pierson and Delvis McCadden and 1993 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School, $400.

Shannon Starkey, James Madison University, daughter of Anne S. Payne and T. Shannon Starkey and 1993 graduate of William Fleming, $400.

Romelle Fullen of Roanoke (not pictured), Virginia State University, a special $500 scholarship.

MATTHEW LONG, BETSY NEATHAWK, and BRENT SOWER, seniors and international baccalaureate diploma candidates at Salem High School, have been named Advanced Placement Scholars by the College Board.

Only 11 percent of the 424,000 students who took advanced placement examinations received this honor. The students qualified based on scores received during the sophomore and junior years as part of the international baccalaureate curriculum.

\ KRISTY GREEN and DAVID GOOD recently attended U.S. Space Camp on national scholarships awarded by MacMillan/McGraw-Hill Publishing Co.

The camp's goal is to stimulate interest in math and science by exposing students to space exploration. Participants train like astronauts and perform simulated shuttle missions.

Green, daughter of Seymour and Helen Green of 3114-G Honeywood Lane, is a sixth-grader at Hidden Valley Junior High. David, son of Michael and Kathy Good of 6535 Poages Mill Drive, is a fifth-grader at Cave Spring Elementary School.

\ THE FUTURE BUSINESS LEADERS OF AMERICA CHAPTER AT WILLIAM FLEMING HIGH SCHOOL was honored as a "Go for the Gold" chapter at the 1993 FBLA National Leadership Conference.

The chapter completed a 10 activities ranging from involvement with the business community to school-related and local service projects to achieve this recognition. The chapter is sponsored by Linda Livengood, Dollie Williams, Billie Wright and Vickie Wright.
