APRIL SMITH of Roanoke has been awarded a 10-month, $15,000 Jane Addams graduate fellowship by the Indiana University Center on Philanthropy, the national clearinghouse for public service, teaching and research in philanthropy.

Smith, a graduate of the University of Richmond, is one of six recipients selected from around the country.

The award, which honors the founder of Chicago's Hull House and noted social reformer Jane Addams, will give Smith 12 credits toward a graduate degree and an internship with a nonprofit organization in the Indianapolis community.
