Gardening program is recruiting volunteers

The Roanoke Extension Office is seeking volunteers in horticulture service as part of its new Master Gardener program.

Volunteers will receive 48 hours of horticulture instruction from local Extension personnel, Virginia Tech Faculty and local horticulture experts in exchange for 48 hours of volunteer service.

Classes will be held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 1 until 4 p.m., Jan. 18 through March 10, 1994.

Planning commission board installs officers

The Fifth Planning District Commission recently installed its new officers.

Wendy Wingo, member of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors, is chairman; Johnny Wright, mayor of Clifton Forge, is vice chairman; and Lee Osbourne of Carter, Brown, and Osbourne Professional Corporation is treasurer.

The Roanoke Valley Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, a division of the planning commission, also elected Wingo as chairman and Charles Hill, mayor or Vinton, as vice chairman.

All officers will serve a two-year term.
