FIRE GUTS BUILDING; ARSON IS SUSPECTED

Fire gutted a storage building on the corner of Jackson Street and Norfolk Avenue Southwest on Friday night.

Roanoke firefighters responded to the blaze just before 7 p.m.

The building was located in a section of houses condemned several years ago, according to District Fire Chief Phillip Taylor.

The owner of the building had yet to be identified by fire officials late Friday.

Taylor said the cause of the fire - which started on the outside of the structure - is being handled as suspicious in nature.
