Swann's final two free throws with six seconds to go put it out of reach for the Gamecocks (0-1), playing their first game under new coach Eddie Fogler.
Old Dominion (1-0) converted nine of 10 free throws in the final 3:25 and rebounded its lone miss.
Petey Sessoms led the Monarchs with 26 points, including six 3-pointers. Mike Jones added 20, Odell Hodge 14 and Kevin Larkin had 12.
Andy Bostick led South Carolina with 29 points. Emmett Hall added 19.
The Gamecocks were without Jamie Watson and Durrant Williams, who were serving one-game suspensions after a summer altercation with campus police. Point guard Carey Rich was weakened by the flu and was on the bench in the second half when Old Dominion began its move from a 63-54 deficit.
The Monarchs used runs of 7-0 and 7-3 to jump to a 73-69 lead with 4:09 to go.

\ George Mason 129, Troy State 119: At Fairfax, the Paul Westhead era at George Mason began the way it was expected to when the Patriots set a school record for points in a victory over the Trojans.
Kenwan Alexander, who averaged 3.0 points per game last season, had 29 points and 12 rebounds to lead George Mason, which went 7-21 each of the past two years. Westhead, known for his run-and-gun style at Loyola Marymount, took over at George Mason in April and had the Patriots running in the opener like he had been there for years.
The loss was the first game in Division I for Troy State, which plays the same style of basketball and set an all-division record two seasons ago with 258 points in one game.
George Mason averaged 68 points per game last season and that's what it had at halftime as Troy State led by four at the break. The Patriots trailed 81-77 with 16:46 left and went on a 12-0 run with Donald Ross ending it with consecutive 3-pointers.
Two more 3-pointers by Ross keyed a 12-0 run that gave George Mason a 106-87 lead with 10:08 left.
Ross, who averaged 9.0 points last season, finished with 23 on 7-for-11 shooting from 3-point range. The Patriots were 12-for-37 from there.
Seven players finished in double figures for the Patriots, who outrebounded the Trojans 83-58. Khyl Horton led George Mason with 18 rebounds and Andrew Fingall had 16.
Derrick Bristol had 21 points to lead eight Trojans in double figures.
Troy State moved into Division I after reaching the Division II national championship game last season.
\ Bridgewater 74, Washington and Lee 50: At Bridgewater, Jeff Berry scored 16 points as Bridgewater beat the Generals in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.
Washington and Lee (1-3, 0-1 ODAC) led Bridgewater 30-29 at the half. Bridgewater (3-0, 1-0) went on to score 45 points in the second half, making 17 of 25 free throws.
Dan Rush had 14 points and Craig Tutt added 12 points for Bridgewater.
Mark Connelly and Matt Newton led Washington and Lee with nine points each.
\ Roanoke 63, Carnegie Melon 54: In Pittsburgh, Pa., Hilliary Scott scored 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as the Maroons won the Carnegie Mellon Thanksgiving Tournament championship.
Scott, voted the tournament MVP, hit only four of 15 shots from the floor, as Roanoke (4-0) overcame a poor night of shooting. The Maroons hit 19 of 52 shots from the floor. Carnegie Mellon (2-3) hit 19 of 54 shots from the field, including 1 of 12 from 3-point range.
Bryant Lee scored 10 points, had nine rebounds and four blocked shots for Roanoke, and teammate Mike Thornton added 12 points and four assists. Derek Dragisich led Carnegie Mellon with 15 points and seven rebounds.
\ Emory & Henry 86, Juniata 64: At Meadville, Pa., Scott Butcher scored 21 points and Dytanyon Norman added 20 on as the Wasps rolled over Juniata in the consolation game of the PNC Bank Gator Classic.
Emory & Henry (2-1) built a 47-33 halftime lead and was not threatened the rest of the way.
The Wasps also got 10 points from Cricker Lauderback.
Gary Black led Juniata (1-4) with 19 points.
\ Randolph-Macon 72, Muskingum 67: At Norfolk, Dan Prescott scored 21 points as Randolph-Macon opened its season with a victory in the Virginia Wesleyan Doubleheader.
Prescott hit four of five 3-pointers and added four assists and three steals for the Yellow Jackets. Randolph-Macon also got 18 points from Jim Taylor and 15 from Nathan Davis.
Ryan McConkey led Muskingum (0-1) with 20 points.
\ N.C. Wesleyan 64, Virginia Wesleyan 63: At Norfolk, a pair of free throws by Shawn Mobley with 43 seconds left helped North Carolina Wesleyan (1-0) beat the Marlins.
Virginia Wesleyan (1-2) ran the clock down and set up for a final shot, but Robert Reich missed at the buzzer.
Mobley led the Battlin' Bishops with 18 points.
Virginia Wesleyan got 16 points from Reich, 12 from David Cohen and 11 from David Alston.
\ Norfolk St. 90, Lane 73: At Norfolk, Corey Williams scored 19 points as the Spartans rolled to a victory over cold-shooting Lane.
Norfolk State (2-0) built a 23-8 lead on the way to a 39-25 halftime edge. The Spartans took their biggest lead at 55-33 with 13:16 left in the game.
Lane (1-4) made 34 percent of its field-goal attempts and turned the ball over 18 times.
The Spartans also got 16 points from Charles Newborn, 15 from Derrick Bryant and 14 from Carnell Penn.
\ Eastern Kentucky 100, Clinch Valley 83: At Richmond, Ky., William Holmes had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and John Allen scored 18 points to lead Eastern Kentucky to victory.
Eastern (1-0) led 54-44 at halftime but then went on a 13-0 run over the first seven minutes of the second half for the Colonels' biggest lead, 67-44. Brad Divine scored five points during the spurt.
Clinch Valley (3-4) responded with an 11-0 tear during the next 2:29 to pull to 67-55. Robert Spears, who finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds, had five points during the run.
Tim Barnett added 17 points for Eastern, and Ara Matthews and Arlando Johnson had 12 apiece.
Sean Brown scored 21 points for Clinch Valley, and Trey Reed and Darren Morton had 13 each.
\ Christopher Newport 112, Chowan 85: At Newport News, Ted Berry scored 26 points as the Captains won the Christopher Newport Invitational.
Christopher Newport led 45-24 at the half and went on to score 67 more points, shooting over 70 percent from the field and the foul line.
Jo-Jo Chambers and Brian Poarch each added 17 points for Christopher Newport. Chambers had 11 rebounds.
Herman Jordan led Chowan with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
\ Guilford 72, Newport News 61: At Newport News, Paul Ferrell had 24 points and Adam Lamb added 16 as the Quakers won the consolation game of the Christopher Newport Invitational.
Andre Harrison led Newport News with 13 points and Johnifer Cox had 12.
\ Hampton 117, Columbia Union 75: At Takoma Park, Md., Jafonda Williams led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points and the hot-shooting Pirates cruised to victory.
The Pirates (3-0) shot 64 percent compared to 46 percent for Columbia Union (0-3).
Hampton, which had a 41-28 rebounding edge, also got 13 points apiece from David Saunders and Keith Chaney and 12 from Casey Witherspoon.
Steve Streelman led Columbia Union with 27 points.
\ Francis Marion 68, Longwood 54: At Florence, S.C., Sigmund Tucker scored 16 points, and Francis Marion (2-1) went on a 5-0 run with just under three minutes remaining to win the consolation game of the Park Inn Classic.
Michael Druitt led Longwood (1-2) with 16 points. The Lancers shot 38 percent from the floor.
Friday's game
\ Winston-Salem State 89, Virginia State 77: At Winston-Salem, N.C., six players scored in double figures to help the Rams beat Virginia State in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association matchup.
Forward Antoine Glover had 14 points to lead Winston-Salem (1-1, 1-1). Louis Williamson had 12 and three other players had 11.
Ricky Whitfield and Douglas Hines of Virginia State (1-2, 1-2) each had 16 points to lead all scorers.
