20TH ANNIVERSARY KIDNEY TRANSPLANT

Mrs. Elaine (West) Barger of Lynchburg and Mrs. Jessie (West) Thomas of Williamstown, N.J., sisters and former residents of Buena Vista, celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 27, 1993, the 20th anniversary of Mrs. Barger's kidney transplant.

Mrs. Barger, who had a renal kidney disease and was on a kidney dialysis machine, received the kidney from her sister on Nov. 28, 1973 at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

Kidney transplant recipients of the 1970's were advised to refrain from bearing children. However, Mrs. Barger gave birth to a son, Matthew, just two years after the transplant. He is now a senior at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.

Mrs. Barger gives God the credit for the success of the transplant and for providing guidance to those performing the operation.

The prayers and support of Mrs.Barger's daughter, Crystal; son, Matthew; husband, Terry; and the many relatives, friends and doctors throughout the years have helped make this celebrationpossible.
