OAK HILL WINS TOURNAMENT

Roanoke native Curtis Staples scored 20 points to lead Oak Hill Academy to a 62-55 victory over Indianola (Miss.) Gentry on Sunday night in the final of the Tournament of Champions.

Staples, the tournament's Most Valuable Player, went 4-for-9 from 3-point range. The University of Virginia signee averaged 22.3 points for three games.

Tavares Johnson added 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Warriors (3-0) in the championship game.

Gentry, the top-ranked team in Mississippi, closed to 50-47 in the fourth quarter before Oak Hill put away the game. Johnson hit four consecutive free throws in the final minute to seal the victory.

The Warriors reached the final by beating Mobile Murphy 96-60 on Friday and New Iberia (La.) 88-65 on Saturday.
