The company was so proud of its employees that its top managers and supervisors allowed employees who increased their weekly donation to throw whipped-cream pies in their faces during lunch.
During the five-day campaign, 28 coordinators worked with the plant's 1,500 employees to raise a goal of $82,000. They broke the goal - raising $13,000 more than last year. The amount includes a 25 percent matching corporate gift.
Kristi Greene, a human resources intern and the company's campaign coordinator, said the increased donations could be attributable partly to an option that allowed employees to designate which United Way agency would receive their gift.
But maybe it was also the chance to throw a pie at plant manager Bill Brubaker, production manager Lee Rice or several other top managers.
For every dollar an employee increased their weekly donation, they received a coupon allowing them to throw a pie during lunch.
As if throwing a pie at your boss wasn't enough reward, the plant also held luncheons for the coordinators and treated all workers to coffee and doughnuts.
