DEPUTY'S SON CITED IN SHOOTING

The son of a Bedford County sheriff's deputy was charged with shooting from a highway as his father drove their vehicle Saturday morning, according to a state game warden.

Lt. Dennis Mullins said officers saw a passenger get out of a vehicle and fire a gun twice at a decoy deer in the south part of the county. State game wardens are using the decoys to catch road hunters.

The person then got back in the vehicle. Officers stopped the vehicle as it drove away.

Glen Mayhew faces a $250 fine if convicted.

Mullins said Glen Mayhew's father, Deputy Ray Mayhew, was driving the vehicle. He was not charged.

Further details were not available Tuesday night. Glen Mayhew did not return a phone call, and Ray Mayhew would not comment when reached at home.
