E&H STUDENTS FROM VALLEY IN `STEEL MAGNOLIAS'|

Two students from the New River Valley will be in the Emory & Henry College production of ``Steel Magnolias'' when it is performed at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday on campus in Wiley Hall auditorium.

Megan Rencsok, a senior from Christiansburg, will play the part of Clairee, the socially-prominent resident of a small Louisiana town. The role was played by Olympia Dukakis in the 1989 film version of the stage play.

Kathleen Langhi, a sophomore from Radford, will play the inexperienced and naive Annelle, Daryl Hannah's role in the movie.

Other cast members include Heather McCall, a junior from Galax; Terri Smith, a senior from Wilson, N.C.; faculty member Kathleen Reuter Chamberlain; and Shannon-Marie Turner, a first-year student from Jonesborough, Tenn., in roles played in the film version respectively by Julia Roberts, Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine and Dolly Parton.

Unlike the movie version, the entire play takes place in a beauty shop run by one of the characters. But it has the same mix of comedy and drama as it explores the friendships and mutual support among its six women who live up to the play's title.
