MARROW-TRANSPLANT FUND ESTABLISHED

Cathy Smith Dowdy underwent a bone marrow transplant on Nov. 19 at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. First diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease in 1990, the 33-year-old Newport native received bone marrow from her 34-year-old sister Marie.

A fund has been established at the National Bank of Blacksburg to help with medical costs. The bank contact is Judy Hager.

Dowdy is a 1979 Giles High School graduate and lives in Newport with her husband, David.
