OBIT SMITH, CLIFFORD R.

SMITH, Clifford R., of 140 Mountain Avenue, Rocky Mount, formerly of Steubenville, Ohio, died Wednesday, December 1, 1993. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Kane Smith, of the home; his son, Richard Smith, of Cathedral City, Calif.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Alan (Sue) Collie, Oakley, Calif., Mrs. James (Tracy) Collie, Tracy, Calif., Darryl Smith, Pleasanton, Calif., and Curt Smith, Durango, Colo; and eight great-grandchildren; also surviving are two stepdaughters, Mrs. Alvin (Donna) Wilson, Martinsville, formerly of Wintersville, Ohio, and Mrs. Gerald (Patricia) Rockwell, Route 2, Moneta; formerly of Bloomingdale, Ohio; eight stepgrandchildren, Mrs. Sam (Joan) Busic, St. Clairsville, Ohio, Brenda and Jane Wilson, Martinsville, Charles, David and Cynthia Rockwell, Route 2, Moneta, James Rockwell and Mrs. Gene (Beth) Stainback, Petersburg, Va., and eight stepgreat-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Elizabeth McConnell Smith, in 1986 and by a brother, Harry Smith in 1990. Mr. Smith was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on January 3, 1909, a son of the late Clifford G. and Bertha C. Smith. He graduated from Steubenville High School in 1925, and was employed by Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation in Steubenville, from where he retired in 1971, with over 44 years of service, in the transportation department. He also had three years of service with the Weirton Lumber Company. Mr. Smith was a member of the New Hope Christian Church in Roanoke, Va. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 2, 1993, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Arrington-Bussey Funeral Home in Rocky Mount. Final visitation will be at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday, December 4, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., where services will be conducted on Sunday, December 5, 1993 at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Keith Short of the LaBelle View Church of Christ of Steubenville, Ohio officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Salem, Va. or the charity of the donors choice.
