The group went at the invitation of several schools, camps and churches and performed as puppet and drama teams and witnessed to their Christian faith. They also participated in sports events and went sightseeing in both countries over the five weeks they were away.
Dave Hillis, leader of the team, said that Australian public schools by law offer religion classes. The Roanoke Valley team ministered in both public and private schools, he said.
The tour was part of a continuing foreign-mission emphasis Shenandoah has undertaken for the 20 years the Roanoke County congregation has been in existence. Hillis estimated that in that time, more than $3.5 million has been given to advance Christianity throughout the world.
