Association seeking donations for needy

Operation Santa Claus, a project of the Mental Health Association of the Roanoke Valley, is seeking donations of money and new men's and women's clothing and toiletries.

Items will be distributed to 700 adults with mental disabilities who live in homes for adults or are patients at Catawba Hospital and Roanoke Memorial Rehabilitation Center.

Donations will be accepted through Tuesday and may be brought to any of the following Crestar Bank branches: Cave Spring Corners, 37 West Church Avenue, Colonial Avenue, Crestar Plaza, Hollins, South Roanoke, Tanglewood Mall and Towers Mall.

Gifts should not be wrapped, but wrapping paper donations will be accepted.

Make checks payable to the Mental Health Association of Roanoke Valley and mail them to the Association by Dec. 7 at P.O. Box 592, Roanoke VA 24004.\ Salem man elected to Easter Seal board

John W. Moticha Jr., of Salem, has been elected chairman of the state board of directors for The Easter Seal Society of Virginia, Inc.

Moticha, a graduate of Roanoke College, is vice president of operations for The Orvis Company.

John M. Hudgins, Jr., of Salem, and David Lee, of Roanoke, were re-elected to the board of directors.

The Easter Seal Society of Virginia, Inc., is a not-for-profit organization providing services for children and adults with disabilities.

\ Volunteers needed at area nursing homes

The LOA Area Agency on Aging is seeking people 18 years and older to volunteer for the Ombudsman Program.

Volunteers will donate four hours a week at an assigned nursing home working to improve communication between the facility staff and residents.

Applications will be accepted through Dec. 10, and training will be provided in mid-January.
