MORE THAN WE WRITE ABOUT NEED HELP

Julie Hollingsworth, executive director of Roanoke Area Ministries, believes that putting faces on the numbers of needy people in the Roanoke Valley encourages others to contribute to the Good Neighbors Fund.

Since the plights of a handful of needy people have been told in the Roanoke Times & World-News, RAM has received calls from readers interested in helping those particular people.

"The stories really trigger increased interest. . . . People call wanting to help a specific person," said Hollingsworth.

But there are many people in the valley who need assistance. LaRue Mason, who has given to the Good Neighbors Fund for several years, says, "There are plenty of people out there who need homes and coats and food."
