AUTHORS TO SIGN BOOKS

Three area authors who have written books about local history have scheduled appearances to sign copies of their works at the Gallery of Local Artists, 1901 S. Main St.

Today, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Roanoke Times & World-News columnist Monty Leitch will autograph copies of her book, "Baptized into One Body: The History of the Christiansburg Presbyterian Church."

On Sunday, the Rev. Ellison Smyth and the Rev. Al Payne will sign their books from 2 to 3 p.m. Smyth authored "Retrospect: or Growing Up in Blacksburg and Other Tales through a Long Life," which has been on the best-seller list at Books, Strings & Things for several weeks.

Payne, formerly the Virginia Tech chaplain, wrote "A Community at Prayer," a compilation of his prayers delivered at community gatherings over three decades.

The appearances were arranged by Pocahontas Press, a Blacksburg specialty publishing house.

The Gallery of Local Artists, a project of the New River Arts Council, is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sundays.
