GORBACHEV ADVISER TO SPEAK AT RU

Gennadi Gerasimov, an adviser to former Soviet president Mikhail Gorbachev, will speak Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Heth Ballroom at Radford University.

Gerasimov was a journalist in the United States for six years when Gorbachev asked for his help in allowing Western media unprecedented access to the Soviet Union.

When President Boris Yeltsin took over in 1991, Gerasimov was made Soviet ambassador to Portugal and became Russian ambassador after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The lecture is called "Was Perestroika Inevitable? The Pressure for Change in the Soviet Union." It is free and open to the public.
