OBIT THORNTON, LUCY DABNEY
THORNTON, Lucy Dabney, 86, of Altavista, formerly of Roanoke, died Friday,
December 3, 1993, in Autumn Care of Altavista where she was a resident for 13
months. Born in Pittsylvania County April 21, 1907, she was the daughter of
the late Joseph Harvey Thornton and Mary Walker Thornton. She was a retired
employee of Community Hospital of the Roanoke Valley. She was a member of
Belmont Christian Church, Roanoke. She is survived by one brother, Jackson
Thornton of Leisure City, Fla.; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by four brothers, William Thornton, Lloyd Thornton, Harry
Thornton, and Percy Thornton; and one sister, Ella W. Thornton. A graveside
service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Greenpond Baptist Church
Cemetery by Rev. Roy Parker. The family and friends may call at the home of
her niece, Phyllis Moore, Rt. 3, Box 232, Hurt, Va. Finch & Finch Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements.
