MARYLAND GOV. WON'T HELP 'SKINS

For now, Gov. William Donald Schaefer will not lend his support to a possible move of the Washington Redskins to Laurel, fearing it would hurt Baltimore's chances of landing its own team.

"He is working on getting a team for Baltimore," said Page W. Boinest, spokeswoman for the governor. "If the Laurel deal should work out, it would definitely hurt Baltimore's chances."

Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke, apparently losing patience with delays in gaining approval for a new stadium in Washington, D.C., has been holding discussions about two possible sites for a new stadium.

One site would be adjacent to Laurel Race Course. The second would be on a 400-acre parcel in Loudoun County, near Dulles International Airport.
