HAM RADIO CLASS COMING TO NEW RIVER COMMUNITY COLLEGE

New River Community College will offer a noncredit class to prepare for the technician-class amateur radio license, Jan. 10 through Mar. 16 at Virginia Ham Radio Supply, 2208 Childress Road.

Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays, 7-9 p.m. There is a $47 fee.

Instructor Bob Cecil, a veteran amateur radio operator, will help students prepare for the FCC-approved tests, which are administered by volunteer examiners. The technician-class ham license permits hobby and public service communication on very-high-frequency amateur bands.

Classes will cover rules and regulations, amateur radio operating practices and procedures, radio wave propagation, electrical and electronic circuits and theory, antennas and feedlines and other topics.

Registration is under way. For more information, call the Office of Continuing Education, 674-3607.
