SALEM MAN CHARGED IN NOV. 20 SHOOTING

Police have charged a Salem man with malicious wounding in connection with the Nov. 20 shooting in the parking lot of a fast food restaurant.

Virgil Eugene Kincaid, 25, of the 700 block of Lancing Drive, Salem, also has been charged with possessing a firearm after being convicted of a felony and using a firearm to commit a felony.

Matthew Dennihy, 30, of Shawsville was shot in the right side of his face at the Hardee's on Roanoke Street near Interstate 81. Christiansburg police said the incident was the result of an altercation that started on U.S. 460 near the 460 bypass when beer cans were thrown at the vehicle in which Dennihy was traveling.

The altercation continued when the vehicles Dennihy and Kincaid were traveling in stopped at the drive-through speaker area of the restaurant.

Lt. Doug Marrs said two shots were fired in the air and a third shot struck Dennihy.

Kincaid was being held in the Montgomery County Jail Monday in lieu of $65,000 bond.
