STAGG BOWL EXPECTS MORE THAN 6,500

Considering ticket sales to date, local organizers expect a crowd in excess of 6,500 at Salem Stadium for Saturday's Amos Alonzo Stagg bowl.

Four days before the noon kickoff of the 21st annual NCAA Division III football championship game, more than 6,000 tickets have been sold. That includes more than 700 tickets sold in a half-hour Saturday in Alliance, Ohio, to Mount Union fans after the Purple Raiders won their semifinal game, plus an additional 600 requested by Mount Union and sold Tuesday in less than 24 hours.

Carey Harveycutter, the Stagg Bowl director and manager of the Salem Civic Center, said the ticket count does not include the 500 tickets delivered to Rowan (N.J.) for sale. Mount Union has requested another 100 tickets.
