SHOPLIFTER ARMY FIRED GETS PENTAGON RETAINER

The former top civilian official in the Army was rehired as a Pentagon consultant with a salary of up to $85,000 a year a short time after he was forced to step down from his job for shoplifting.

John W. Shannon, who was acting Army secretary, last month was hired on a month-to-month contract to survey Defense Department inventories.
