WILLIAM FLEMING LOSES HINES, GAME

William Fleming got two doses of the blues Friday night.

The Colonels lost a non-district basketball game to GW-Danville 76-70, and they lost star guard Derrick Hines with an injury to his Achilles' tendon.

Fleming coach Burrall Paye said the extent of the injury will be determined Monday, when Hines is to be examined by a doctor. Hines definitely will miss today's game at Heritage. After that, Fleming's next game is Tuesday at Albemarle.

GW (3-0) got 21 points from Thomas Rogers. Keith Hampton had 22, Reggie Reynolds 20 and William Fitzgerald 11 for Fleming (2-1).

COVINGTON - Matt Matheny scored a game-high 29 points as the Group AAA Knights (1-1) whipped the Group AA Mountaineers (1-1) in a non-district game.

NARUNA - The Minutemen (3-0, 3-0) rushed to a 31-13 first-quarter lead and went on to bury the Generals (0-4, 0-4) in a Seminole District game. Bruce Jacobs had 23 points to lead a balanced attack for Liberty.

BRISTOL, Tenn. - The Eagles missed 30 shots from inside eight feet in a non-conference loss to the Lions. Roanoke Valley Christian (1-2) was led by Scott Apjok's 15 points.

\ Albemarle 50\ William Fleming 37

CHARLOTTESVILLE - The Patriots (2-1) broke open a one-point game by outscoring the Colonels (1-2) by 12 points in the fourth quarter to earn the non-district victory. Felicia Manns paced Fleming with 14 points.

\ GW-Danville 60\ Franklin County 51

DANVILLE - Annette Wilson scored 10 of her game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter to lead GW-Danville past Franklin County (1-1) in a non-district matchup. Natalie Giles led the visitors with 13 points.\ Kingsport Christian 56\ Roanoke Valley Christian 39

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - Kingsport (3-0) hit its first five field-goal attempts en route to a victory over the Eagles.

RVC (2-3) was led by Tiffany Hogan's 11 points.
