EWING, MONTANA, WORLD SERIES TOP SPORTS VIDEOS WISH LISTS

Five sports videos - two basketball, two baseball and a football special - have surfaced in time for Christmas giving and just plain cold-weather viewing.

"Patrick Ewing Standing Tall" ($19.98) is a wonderful 45-minute cassette from NBA Entertainment that brings the viewer into focus with a basketball tower who has seldom discussed the man behind that forbidding game face.

The former Georgetown University star talks about how he felt when he was a boy growing up in Jamaica, a high school star in Cambridge, Mass., a collegiate all-American and a young pro.

At times he even laughs, giving his fans a delightful insight into an athlete with uncommon perseverance who faced challenges head on and came away from them standing tall.

There are also plenty of game clips from his play at all three levels of competition.

The other NBA release is "NBA Rising Stars," a look at the latest generation of jumpers and dunkers. This 45-minute cassette, listing for $14.98 and narrated by Ahmad Rashad, offers profiles of Dikembe Mutombo, Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Hardaway, Alonzo Mourning, Larry Johnson, Derrick Coleman, Kenny Anderson, Harold Miner and Shawn Kemp.

Just weeks after Joe Carter's dramatic home run concluded the 1993 World Series come 66 minutes of the six-game slugfest between Toronto and Philadelphia. The compilation leading to Toronto's win offers plenty of bang, especially in the 15-14 fourth game, which set records for hits, runs and duration. The $19.95 Major League Baseball Home Video, "The 1993 World Series," also includes extensive highlights of the league championships.

For football fans, there is "The Joe Montana Story," a 45-minute $19.95 PolyGram Video including many highlights of this star's career. He says, in his ever-modest manner, "I'm very grateful that I've been fortunate enough to live out my dream."
