OBIT STURGILL, ULYSSES GRANT
STURGILL, Ulysses Grant, ("Doc"), 81, of Salem, died Saturday, December 11,
1993. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Salem. He retired
from Valleydale Meats after 40 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII,
serving in the Navy. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn Richardson
Sturgill. He is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Dora Leigh and
Dwaine Russell of Roanoke, Lessie Bishop and Blanch Jones, both of Chilhowie,
Dulcie Cook and Pearl Heath, both of Marion, and Ruth Wolfram of Bristol;
brothers, James L. Sturgill of Salem, and Clarence C. Sturgill of Chilhowie;
six nieces and eleven nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday,
December 13, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with the
Rev. A. Howell Franklin and the Rev. Randal A. Barnhart officiating. Interment
will follow at Sherwood Memorial Park, Salem. The family will receive friends
7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Central
United Methodist Church, 428 College Ave., Salem, Va. 24153.
