NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS

JOHN S. PHILLIPS has the Phillips joined First National Bank of Christiansburg in commercial lending.

Phillips holds a bachelor's degree from Virginia Military Institute and is pursuing a master's degree in business at Virginia Tech.

\ PATSY BISHOP, JOYCE BUFORD and Bishop KATHY MILLIRONS of Radford Community Hospital recently received the President's Circle of Excellence awards. Bishop is chart analyst in medical records. Buford is a housekeeping aide, and Millirons is a home health plus employee and supervisor in the Dublin office.

District manager JOHN BEAMER of The Franklin insurance company in Christiansburg has earned one of the company's top agency building honors for outstanding recruiting activity during September.

\ RALPH MILLER and KEVIN MILLER are offering alterations and repairs at Valley Cleaners and Tailors, 807 Kabich St. in Blacksburg.

Military uniforms are their specialty, and they can monogram to customer specifications.

\ TERRY A. GOODSON of Shirley's Frame Shop in Christiansburg has been awarded a certified picture framer title by the International Professional Picture Framers Association headquartered in Richmond.

The 1993 Administrative Contracting Officer's Staff Federal Employees of the Year at the Millirons Radford Army Ammunition Plant are GENE A. BROOKS, a cost and price analyst in the contracts division, and DELORE H. AGEE, secretary in the command group.

\ DR. GEORGE B. McCLELLAND has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research. He has served as Virginia representative to the American Chiropractic Association since 1981, and recently spoke at the 37th Annual Claims Conference in West Virginia.

Pulaski Community Hospital has announced two additions to its medical staff. Pediatrician RICHARD C. GEHRZ M.D., who will have offices in downtown Pulaski and in Dublin, graduated from the University of Minnesota, and spent 18 years of his career at the university hospital's Department of Pediatrics. Gehrz is recognized as a leading authority on human cytomegalovirus, a major\ cause of birth defects.

\ RICHARD R. JOHNSON M.D., an ophthalmologist, has also joined the hospital staff. Johnson received his medical degree from the University of Virginia and performed an internship at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He completed a residency program at the Medical College of Virginia.

\ JACK NUNLEY, chief financial officer of Pulaski Community Hospital, has been named Outstanding Manager of the Year by HealthTrust, Inc., the company that owns and operates the facility.

The Appalachia Educational Laboratory's board of directors has announced the appointment of BRUCE HEDRICK, Giles County school board member and production manager with Hoechst Celanese, to a three-year appointment to the laboratory board of directors.

\ DORSEL "J.R." JUSTICE of Pearisburg has been named co-manager for 84 Lumber in Pearisburg. He is responsible for store operations, including sales and inventory control.

\ UNITED CITIES GAS contributed $750 to New River Community College for the Center for Training and Development.

\ NATIONSBANK announced it will make a $500 donation to the New River Valley Small Business Development Sutphin Center.

\ BARBARA DUNCAN has been chosen Associate of the Quarter at Heritage Hall.

An employee for almost four years, Duncan is a certified nursing assistant and skin-care technician.

\ DANA L. SUTPHIN has been named assistant vice president at Lamm The National Bank of Blacksburg. She joined the bank in 1977.

\ PATRICK L. LAMM has been promoted to credit review officer at The National Bank of Blacksburg.

He has worked at the bank since 1989 and resides in McCoy.
