Approved sewer rates and bonds for sewage treatment plant: Roanoke will issue $15.7 million in bonds as its share of the $41.5 million cost for expanding the regional treatment plant. The other localities' shares are: Roanoke County, $12.3 million; Salem, $10.5 million; Botetourt County, $1.9 million; and Vinton, $990,000. Roanoke's sewer rates will increase by 51 percent over the next three years to repay the bonds. The charge for an average residential customer using 5,000 gallons of water a month will increase from $6.47 to $9.80 by 1996.\ \ Authorized study for downtown rail-side linear park: Hired Hayes, Seay, Mattern and Mattern to prepare a concept design for a linear park from the City Market to the Virginia Museum of Transportation. Mayor David Bowers has proposed such a park.\ \ Discussed possible route for Interstate 73: Agreed to ask the Virginia Department of Transportation to conduct a corridor study of U.S. 220 from Interstate 581 to the North Carolina state line for the purpose of developing a specific plan and schedule for needed improvements.\ \ Rezoned for automobile parts center: Approved the rezoning of almost 10 acres near the Roanoke Regional Airport so a North Carolina-based distributor of automobile products can move its Roanoke Valley operation from Salem. The rezoning will permit Heafner Tires & Products to build a 20,000-square-foot distribution center on Thirlane Road near Valley Court at Interstate 581 and Hershberger Road interchange.
