TAR HEELS GET HUGUENOT QUARTERBACK

Gator-Bowl bound North Carolina has received a commitment from one of the top quarterbacks in Virginia, 6-foot-2 Anthony "Toney" Coles from Huguenot High School in Richmond.

Coles, who passed for 1,373 yards and 16 touchdowns this past season, visited Chapel Hill this past weekend and subsequently canceled trips to Rutgers, Boston College, Georgia Tech and Penn State.

"I really wanted to get it over with," said Coles, who completed more than 56 percent of his passes. He also rushed for 375 yards and five touchdowns in an option attack similar to the Tar Heels'.

Jason Stanicek, who will be a senior, is the only scholarship quarterback in the Tar Heels' program. Back-up Mike Thomas plays professional baseball and is ineligible to receive aid.
