OBIT TANNER, FREDERICK ARTHUR
TANNER, Frederick Arthur, 73, of Roanoke, died Monday, December 13, 1993.
After serving four years in the 8th Army Air Corps in the European Theater of
World War II, he graduated from Lynchburg College in 1949. He was a member of
the Lynchburg College Sports Hall of Fame. A former branch manager of Bemiss
Equipment Corporation, Fred was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary for
thirty years serving as past commander of Flotilla 81 and past captain of
Division VIII, the Elks Club, the Shriners and Windsor Hills United Methodist
Church. He is survived by his wife, Elsie Corvin Tanner; sons, Frederick A.
Tanner Jr., Charlotte, NC, and Curtis C. Tanner, Midlothian; daughter, Kathryn
T. Wilborn, Richmond; six grandchildren; sisters, Winifred Saunders, Moneta;
Nellie Rouzie, Bedford; Edith Hulvey, Manchester, TN; Rebecca Trevey, Glasgow;
and Jean Tanner, Big Island; and brother, Charles Tanner, Dallas, TX. On
December 16, at 2:30 p.m., the funeral service at Windsor Hills United
Methodist Church will be led by the Rev. Michael Meloy and the Rev. Tammy
Estep. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will welcome
friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel. If desired,
memorials may be made to Windsor Hills United Methodist Memorial Fund or the
American Cancer Society.
