Also among the 25 films chosen for preservation at the Library of Congress were some relatively recent titles, like the sci-fi thriller "Blade Runner" (1982), and "Badlands" (1973), starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek.
The aim of the registry is to preserve films for the future. But films don't have to be old to be endangered, said Librarian of Congress James H. Billington, who makes the final selections.
Films chosen for the registry don't have to be classics.
