NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT MICHAEL D. BAMBER, son of Michael Bamber of Roanoke and Patricia St. Pierre of Wilbraham, Mass., recently graduated from Seaman Apprenticeship studies at the Naval Training Center in San Diego.

Bamber will be stationed aboard the USS Truxton.

\ RETIRED COL. DOUGLAS A. HUFF of Roanoke recently was inducted into the Officer Candidate School Hall of Fame at Fort Benning, Ga. Huff, who retired with 32 years of military service, is a 1945 graduate of the school.

To be selected for the Hall of Fame, officers must have been commissioned from the school at Fort Benning or the Ground General School at Fort Riley, Kan., and have been awarded the Medal of Honor, attained the rank of colonel while on active duty or in reserve, been elected or appointed to a national or state government office of prominence, or been recognized by the commandant of the Infantry School for outstanding service.

Huff was commissioned as an infantry officer after graduation in 1945, and his first duty assignment was as platoon leader and company executive officer in Germany. During his career, he was in Vietnam and stationed in Maryland, New Mexico, California, North Carolina and Georgia.

\ CPL. DANIEL R. STALLARD, son of Daniel and Peggy C. Stallard, has received the Selected Marine Corps Reserve Medal while assigned with the 4th Combat Engineer Battalion, 4th Marine Division in Roanoke.

Stallard received the medal for honest and faithful service while actively participating in the Reserve Program for a four-year period. He is a 1987 graduate of Salem High School.

\ AIRMAN BASIC RYAN P. PALMER, son of David R. Palmer of 514 Tennessee St., Salem, has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

\ SEAMAN RECRUIT KENNETH R. SMITH, son of William D. Smith of 2416 Los Hollow Road, Salem, has completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, San Diego, Calif. He is a 1992 graduate of Northside High School.

\ FIREMAN DOUGLAS E. SWEENEY, son of Lester E. and Sandra W. Sweeney of 3428 Rainbow Forest Drive, Troutville, has completed training at the Naval Submarine School in Groton, Conn. He is a 1985 graduate of Lord Botetourt High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN JAMES E. STANLEY, a 1990 graduate of Craig County High School, recently completed basic training at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Fla.

\ AIRMAN BASIC JOSEPH P. BENEDETTO, son of Patrick J. and Linda M. Benedetto of Troutville, recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

\ ARMY PFC. TODD W. ROSEBERRY, son of Thomas W. and Anne G. Roseberry of 719 Maryland Ave., Salem, has completed infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS KURT R. LANGENWALTER, son of Beulah M. Martin of 6912 Buck Crossing Road, recently received a Letter of Commendation for consistently performing his duties aboard the submarine USS Phoenix in an exemplary and highly professional manner.
