MONTGOMERY SCHOOL BOARD MEETS TONIGHT

The Montgomery County School Board will hold a special meeting at 7 tonight to further discuss the Focus 2006 schools improvement plan.

The three-hour meeting will allow School Board members to go over the Focus 2006 final report and recommendations with members of the Strategic Planning Commission that drafted it.

Focus 2006 was a yearlong effort that involved more than 200 parents, teachers, school administrators and students who examined the Montgomery school division from the bottom up. The aim was to find ways to improve the school system by the time today's kindergartners graduate from high school in 2006. The 25-member Strategic Planning Commission pared down 18 separate task force reports into one slim final report, which it presented to the School Board and public in October.

Tonight's meeting at school headquarters, 200 Junkin St. in Christiansburg, is open to the public.
