EAGLES TOPPLE BENGALS 60-51

A third-quarter awakening helped Franklin County overcome a halftime deficit on the way to a 60-51 non-district boys' basketball victory over visiting Bassett on Wednesday night in Rocky Mount.

Down 28-24, the Eagles (2-2) came out pressing in the third quarter and outscored Bassett 22-14. Rico Batista scored his six points on two 3-pointers, and Carlos Holland had six of his 11 points in the quarter.

K.C. Hancock scored 15 points to lead the Eagles, and Chad Foutz added 14.

Logan Copening's 13 points and Art Wade's 10 led Bassett (2-3). \

Parry McCluer 60, Roanoke Catholic 47: Nathan Baker scored 15 points and Kris Carter had 14 to lead the Fighting Blues to a non-district victory over the host Celtics.

Roanoke Catholic (1-1) went on a 15-0 run late in the game to close to 50-47, but Parry McCluer (3-1) played tough defense and made six consecutive free throws to seal the victory.

The Celtics were led in scoring by Mike Kolnok with 21 points, including five 3-pointers, and Paul Bratton with 12. Bratton also had a team-high 10 rebounds. \
