NEW RIVER PEOPLE IN BUSINESS

ALLEN K. WILLIAMS of Christiansburg has been chosen to direct the Blue Ridge Center of Excellence for New Design, a new component of the Virginia Department of Transportation.

A Montgomery County native, Williams is a licensed professional engineer and a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

\ STEVE VAUGHT of Dublin has been appointed marketing representative for United Cities Gas Company for the New River Valley.

\ R. BRUCE CUNNINGHAM of the New River Valley Home Builders Association has been sworn in as the 1994 president of the Home Builders Association of Virginia.

\ VIRGINIA CURRIE of Blacksburg has been elected an honorary member of the Virginia Society of the American Institute of Architects in recognition of her efforts in the Blacksburg Beautification Program.

Her husband, architect LEONARD J. CURRIE, is recipient of the Noland Award for professional achievement.

\ IVA MARY HOPKINS of Blacksburg, a practicing dietitian and nutritionist for the past 20 years, is the new president of the Virginia Dietetic Association.

The association of 1,400 members in Virginia works for professional recognition statewide for dietitians and nutritionists.

The group's major concern now is health care reform, including nutrition counseling and education for preventive health care.

Hopkins, who works for dialysis centers in Radford and Roanoke and as a consulting dietitian with several area nursing homes, has previously held positions as district president and state legislative chairman with the association.

Other New River residents active in the group include Ruby Cox of Blacksburg, district president, and Barbara Chrisley of Radford University, district president-elect.

Mary Ann Novascone of Blacksburg serves as chairman of recruitment and retention and career guidance for the state organization.

Joanne Pearson of Blacksburg, is editor of the association's state newsletter. Ellen Coale, who works at Montgomery Regional Hospital, is chairman of continuing education for the state group.

\ MARYLOU has been named New River Valley 1993 Realtor of the Year for being an excellent Realtor and active in civic affairs and the Realtor association. Additionally, Marylou received the sole proprietor Honor Firm Award for the fifth consecutive year.

The NEW RIVER VALLEY ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS has installed officers for 1994.
