2 PLAYERS MAKE GRADE IN SOCCER

Virginia Tech midfielder Scott Elson and former Hokies player Lang Wedemeyer have been named to the South Atlantic Region Scholar-Athlete second-team All-America squad in men's soccer.

Elson, a senior from Lynchburg played in 11 games this year for the Hokies, contributing one goal and five assists. He has a 3.24 grade-point average in electrical engineering.

Wedemeyer, a three-time All-Timesland selection at Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, played two years at Tech before transferring to Old Dominion. The Monarchs senior carries a 3.44 GPA in English.

In other sports in the region:

The Virginia Tech women's basketball team will prepare for the holidays in Malibu, Calif., where the Hokies will play in the Pepperdine tournament Saturday and Sunday.

Tech (2-1) will face Mississippi State at 10 p.m. Saturday in the first round. Colorado State and Pepperdine will meet in the other first-round game. The championship game is 8 p.m. Sunday, followed by the consolation game at 10 p.m.
