FORMER JUDGE ORDERED TO REPORT TO JAIL

Former Norfolk General District Judge Joseph H. Campbell is to report to jail Dec. 27 after pleading no contest to tampering with court records involving a prosecutor's traffic ticket 4 1/2 years ago.

Campbell, 64, ended the long legal battle by pleading guilty Wednesday to a single misdemeanor charge of computer trespass in exchange for a six-month jail term. He likely will have to serve about three months, court officials said.

It marked the first time a sitting judge in Virginia has been convicted and sentenced to jail based on his conduct as a judge, special prosecutor Bill Dolan said.

The case began in 1989 when Paul Sciortino, then the Virginia Beach commonwealth's attorney, got a traffic ticket and Campbell ordered a clerk to change Sciortino's name on the court docket. - Associated Press
