RADFORD NATIVE STABBED; HUSBAND CHARGED IN DEATH

A Radford native was stabbed to death Wednesday at her home in Gloucester County, and her estranged husband has been charged in the killing, according to police.

Carolyn Hinkley "Cissy" Heffelfinger, 37, was stabbed three times Wednesday morning, according to Capt. M.L. Nicely of the Gloucester County Sheriff's Department.

An autopsy conducted Thursday showed Heffelfinger was stabbed once in the back and twice in the neck, severing an artery, police said.

Nicely said Joseph R. Heffelfinger, the victim's estranged husband, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder.

The couple had been separated, Nicely said.

Joseph Heffelfinger, 37, was taken to Central State Hospital in Gloucester County for evaluation Thursday, police said.

Carolyn Heffelfinger was a nurse at the Walter Reed Nursing Facility in Gloucester County.
