Tazewell man charged in death of 77-year-old

TAZEWELL - Authorities were holding a man without bond after his arrest in the beating death of a 77-year-old Tazewell County man.

Claude J. Reedy, 29, of Tazewell was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree murder in the death of Robert S. Gross, who was found dead in his home Dec. 8.

Roger Nelson, an investigator with the Tazewell County Sheriff's Department, and Commonwealth's Attorney Mike Dennis would not discuss a motive for the slaying.

Gross was found dead on his kitchen floor when his daughter arrived to take him grocery shopping. Gross was last seen alive two days earlier.

NORFOLK - A Liberty University student has been ordered to perform 300 hours of community service for a conviction of involuntary manslaughter and drunken driving in the death of her boyfriend.

Kari Fraser, 20, faced up to 5 1/2 years in prison for the death of Justin Breakstone, who was killed when the vehicle Fraser was driving flipped over on Interstate 295 entering downtown Norfolk in July.

Both Fraser and Breakstone had been drinking before the accident.

Circuit Judge John Morrison Jr. convicted Fraser of both counts, then ordered her to perform 300 hours of community service, meet with a case worker at least once a week and participate in a substance abuse program for five years.
