K92 SAVES CITY FROM CHRISTMAS WITH NO PARADE

Roanoke will have a Christmas parade, after all.

Radio station K92 (WXLK, 92.3 FM) is sponsoring a small parade around the Roanoke Civic Center, starting this morning at 10.

Sammy Simpson, promotions director, said the station decided to sponsor a small parade when the city announced the rained-out Christmas parade was not going to be rescheduled.

"What's Christmas without a parade?" Simpson asked.

There will be more than 70 entries, including clowns, a Corvette club, the American Association of Retired Persons, fire trucks and others. The event should last an hour.

One cautionary note, though - there's a 40 percent chance of rain today.
